Yay – we are supporting another community solar array!
Two of our newest board members – mom Megan Kelso and son Cody (youth representative) — undertook a walk from Gibsons to Powell River in March 2021, to raise funds for a solar panel array on the roof of the
SPCA building in Wilson Creek.
The roof — located at 4376 Solar(!) Road — is ideally oriented for solar panels.
Cody is very concerned about climate change and sees the great potential of solar as a benign alternate energy source.
The dynamic duo also raised money for the
BC Sustainable Energy Association.
Cody and Megan's walk was truly successful, raising more than $10,000 for BCSEA and $18,500 for the Sunshine Coast SPCA. The Sunshine Coast Credit Union stepped up with a $5000 grant for the solar array which was added to what was raised from the walk to provide a substantial array for the roof of the SPCA. Thank you to everyone who donated and helped out and a big thanks to the SC Credit Union for their generous grant.
The Sunshine Coast Community Solar Association (SCCSA) is a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering and supporting residents of British Columbia's beautiful Sunshine Coast in all aspects of energy conservation and renewable energy production. Formally established in 2015, the SCCSA has been collaborating with municipalities, the Sunshine Coast Regional District, School District 46 and the Sunshine Coast Credit Union to provide educational and financial support options to local residents, as well as exploring possibilities for rooftop arrays on schools, recreation centres and other government buildings. Our vision is that everyone will be able to join us on this exciting solar journey! Please go to our contact page to sign up for our Newsletter.
